Final

Critique:

Change color of pants to not blend in with background
Good angle
Disconnect in colored lineart on left figure (bump it up)
Clothing on left seems flat and smooth, and not as much attention.
Possibly put plaid on left figure shirt
Add a rim light on legs (just work on rim light)
Health bars are good; add more video game effects

Life Drawing 2

Critique Received:

Add more dark values to bodies, push dimensionality in a lot of pieces, good posture
Good blue values, and depth, figures look like they have weight and are sitting in space
Neon lights, anatomy is better, more light pink in the blue and pink piece
Make sure colors aren't just isolated incidents
Good use of background color as outline
Include reflective colors, need more line variation
Average foreshortening
Good utilization of brushes
Attention to muscular forms
Utilized texture, and experimentation
Good gesture

Landscape

Critique received

Light should reflect more rocks and be given more range
Two exits are competing as light sources (one should be smaller)
More reflection should be on water
Someone suggested that I add bats and a creature, but Ionnoboutalldat.....

Master Copying

Original on Right, Mine on Left.
Critique Given:

Both look watercolor-y
Body is curvier in mine
More contrast than original
Should be more hard edges
Chest area is more successful
Face in mine is better, background texture is more successful, more of the figure in mine whereas it, in original, gets lost in the background, dress shape is better than original

Texture Painting

The objective of this exercise was to either replicate, or replicate the impression of given textures. The critique that mine received mainly commented that I needed more hard lines and slight variety in brush shapes to add to the authenticity and contrast.

LIFE DRAWING

Some Critique:
-Nice attention to weight
-Interesting color choices
-Work on slight anatomy
-Play with both starting with contour and blocking out shapes
-Nice experimentation with brushes

Digital Painters Research

some happy doodling to try to shake the funk

Unwind

NAME: Kikiface

COLOR PALETTES: Muted, unsaturated colors, usually.

CONTENT MATTER: Varies. Fan art, original characters, etc.

STYLE & WHY I LIKE THEM: Upon examination, Kikiface uses Transfer when creating her outlines. With the line art being translucent, letting the color under mix with the color of the line to create an interesting and unique appearance around her pieces. She varies from hard blending, to soft gradients.

A commission.

NAME: Ed/Cubesona

COLOR PALETTES: None specific. Changes to fit the piece.

CONTENT MATTER: Mostly commissions. Sometimes personal OCs and video games.

STYLE & WHY I LIKE THEM: Since I adore video games, I also adore anything that reminds me of them. Ed works primarily with the binary tool in paint tool sai, and I really enjoy his line variation in all of his pieces. His figures all vary in body shape, and everything he does is pretty cool to look at. Sticking with pixels, all of his shading is hard shading.

congrats to NASA, especially the new horizons team!!also pluto’s heart mark is unexpectedly the most adorable thing in space

NAME: Rose /Barachan

COLOR PALETTES: All over the place. Uses highlighter colors often.

CONTENT MATTER: Varies to her interests. Mostly fan art and OCs.

STYLE & WHY I LIKE THEM: Barachan has a style of shading, coloring, and line art that can all be very angular, either being squares or triangle. This unique method is what attracts me to her art, as well as her courage to utilize bright colors in her works. Her shading varies from hard to gradient, with the hard shading usually being the lighting.

NAME: Asia / Asieybarbie

COLOR PALETTES: Varies, but occasionally vibrant.

CONTENT MATTER: Commissions, Steven Universe, fan art, etc.

STYLE & WHY I LIKE THEM: I don't know really, I just have a love for all black artists. Her shading varies from soft to hard, depending on the material, and I've never seen a piece of hers that I did not enjoy. They command attention somehow.

NAME: ?? / Oyasummi

COLOR PALETTES: Sometimes very bright colors, other times, muted colors depending on the tone.

CONTENT MATTER: Fan art.

STYLE & WHY I LIKE THEM: Firstly, they draw alot of fan art for my favorite anime. Secondly, They seem to use pixel/ pencil/ binary tool to create their line art, and then soft/hard shade underneath. The contrast between the two are interesting, and they also often use hatching as a method of shading.
